Seeing the Kingdom

Text: "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again" John 3:3.

Sight is a wonderful gift. Just this morning, as I looked out into the breaking dawn, I was rewarded with a glimpse of a fox walking along a paved path in the semi-darkness. After watching a moment, I tapped on our large picture window. She looked up instantly, and then rather quickly disappeared down the riverbank.

What a sight!

But there was more. Others had told me of this fox and her pups. One of the babies, half-grown and with reddish streaks down its back, soon showed up.

What a sight! And when I tapped the window a second time, the pup followed its mother over the bank, down toward the water.

The kingdom of God can be seen. The new birth opens one's eyes to it. The rule of King Jesus in the hearts and minds of men and women everywhere makes it evident. It has come to millions in the past. It keeps coming today when people believe. And, thank God, it is still to come.

What a sight it will be when we see Jesus!

"Seeing" the kingdom of God is evidence that you have been born again. Tomorrow I will keep my eyes peeled for yet another creature to add pleasure to my day. But that glimpse will be fleeting. The kingdom of God is enjoyed forever!

Are you seeing it? I hope so.
